The Washington Area Tougaloo Alumni Chapter Proudly Presents....An Ordinary Hero:  The True Story of Tougaloo Alumni Joan Trumpauer Mulholland" by Loki Mulholland

The amazing true story of one white Southern woman's courage to choose her convictions and join the Civil Rights Movement.  By the time she was 19, Joan Trumpauer was shot at, attacked, and put on death row but that's just the beginning of her remarkable journey to help change the world.  Heralded as an unsung hero but disowned by her family, Joan takes us on an incredible journey of her life in the Civil Rights Movement and the power of the human spirit to persevere against the world.  To purchase the DVD go to the WATAC Store then select the online or download-mail-in-form option.

Congratulations to Hope Goins '02 for being named Tougaloo College Young Alumnus of the Year 2012-2013.  This year, Gregory Johnson '08 was recognized as 2014 Tougaloo College Outstanding Young Alumnus. WATAC young alums are indeed SOARING!!!

*In 2010, WATAC joined with local Mississippi HBCU Alumni Chapters to rally the involvement of alumni from Tougaloo College, Jackson State University, Alcorn State University and Mississippi Valley University (TJAM). We continued the team spirit with TJAM for the 3rd Annual Cookout in August, 2012 and also participated in the Inaugural TJAM Scholarship Gala, April 20, 2012 which was an enjoyable success and continues as an annual affair.

The clarion call came once again in 2012 to strengthen the HBCU ties on a broader scale by joining not just the Mississippi HBCU’s  or the UNCF institutions but connecting with ALL of the HBCUs under the umbrella of  the HBCU Alliance. It is hoped that the organization will foster a kind of unity that will benefit each of our institutions both fraternally and fiscally.  The signature fundraiser is a 5krun2kwalk.  Visit http://www.dchbcu.org/index.htm.

July 2013, at Mississippi On the Potomac XXI, we reveled in our “made to order” weather and cheered for our golfers at Andrews AFB on Friday; Saturday, we basked in the summer breeze at the Catfish Buffet Outing on the Potomac while listening to and singing “oldies but goodies”. To close our weekend on Sunday, we enjoyed a “laid-back” afternoon of jazz, punctuated with timeless poetry from our own Hermand Bennett, Jr. WATAC is now offering Bennett’s books in the WATAC store for your year-round enjoyment. Check it out! (Proceeds will benefit the WATAC Scholars Fund.)

Be sure to mark your calendar for Mississippi On the Potomac XXII, July 18-20, 2014 and join the fun.

Join WATAC and be a part of our committed steadfast, legacy-building team for Tougaloo College!
