WATAC MAKING GREAT STRIDES
Each year WATAC strives to do more and give more. We are continually growing and attracting dedicated alumni who are following the lead of our committed and stalwart founding alumni family members. We seek to fortify the foundation that they created by increasing participation, membership, partnerships and sponsorships for our beloved Tougaloo College.
Every Year is the Year of the Eagle Queen!!!
*From 1992 to present, Mississippi on the Potomac has been our signature event contributing over $400,000 to the college. We sincerely appreciate the sponsorship and participation from our Tougaloo family, friends and supporters. (See Sponsorship Tab)
WATAC contributes to the Tougaloo College General Scholarship Fund in addition to awarding scholarships annually to our WATAC Scholars, selected by the WATAC Scholarship Committee. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to each of the six scholars who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and community service to include a deserving Community College transfer student. We proudly offer the DVD, "An Ordinary Hero: The True Story of Tougaloo Alumni Joan Trumpauer Mulholland" by Loki Mulholland. This is an amazing true story of one white Southern woman's courage to choose her convictions and join the Civil Rights Movement. Joan is an active member on "team WATAC”.
The recently restored Historic Robert O. Wilder Building…”The Mansion” Tapestry is here! It has been a delight to hear the stories of “this is where I met my sweetheart for life” or “my first job was at the Mansion”. Capture those remembrances…. The Mansion Tapestry Throw, now available in the WATAC Store.

*In 2010, WATAC joined with local Mississippi HBCU Alumni Chapters to rally the involvement of alumni from Tougaloo College, Jackson State University, Alcorn State University and Mississippi Valley University (TJAM). We continue to answer the clarion call to strengthen the HBCU ties on a broader scale by actively participating in the TJAM event, the Washington Inter-Alumni Council- UNCF organization and DC- HBCU Alliance. It is hoped that this partnership will foster a kind of unity that will benefit each of our institutions both fraternally and fiscally. Visit http://www.dchbcu.org/index.htm.
July 2015, at Mississippi On the Potomac XXIII, we reveled in our “made to order” weather and cheered for our golfers at Andrews AFB on Friday; Saturday, we basked in the summer breezes at the Catfish Buffet Outing on the Potomac at a new location, Bretton Woods, while listening to and singing “oldies but goodies” with “the Young Bucks”. To close our weekend on Sunday, we enjoyed a “laid-back” afternoon of jazz performed by Collaboration. We missed Hermand and Lurley Bennette being at the brunch , but WATAC will hear Hermand’s words for years to come and now offer Hermand’s books and CD collection in the WATAC store for your year-round enjoyment. Check it out! Proceeds will benefit the Hermand Bennette, Jr. “ Straight Ahead” Scholarship Fund.
Be sure to mark your calendar for Mississippi On the Potomac XXIV, July 14-17, 2016 and join the fun. WATAC would be honored to have you participate with us as part of our committed, steadfast, inter-generational, legacy-building team for TOUGALOO COLLEGE!
